Tenth Annual
Peace Arch Park
International Sculpture Exhibition

May 1st ~ October 1st, 2007

Call For Artist Submissions "Artwork Submission Guidlines" 2008 Exhibit.

Call My Name ~ “Call My Name”
is an abstract representation of an
owl. The layered base gives a nice contrast to the smooth polished surfaces.

Okanagan marble. Ede Axelson, Kelowna, BC. $1,500.

Leaf Form ~
"Leaf Form"
was sculpted from a granite boulder from my property, carved during the springtime. Feelings of growth and regeneration were felt as inspiration during the carving.

The opening of maple leaves as they spring out of a crumpled bud was an image. The rounded symmetry and upward thrust of the form is
at once peaceful to my eye and invigorating with the open spaces that can be explored.

Granite, Josh Brooke Coté, Carnation, WA. $1,500.

Visit Josh Brooke Coté web site

POD’s ~
The shape of the river stones resembled seed “POD’s.”I carved the ends to resemble pods opening.

I designed the steel structure to hold the “POD’s” and then patinated the steel to look like a dried plant ready to seed.

River stone & steel. W. Leon White, Seattle, WA. $3,500.

Delicate Balance ~
Delicate Balance is a rectangular steel piece with copper pyramids at both ends, that seem to balance on one point.

This is to indicate direction – up and down simultaneously.

Reflected on the sides and
surrounding as well as the viewer always changing as the viewer moves around the piece.

Steel, Copper, Stone, Gold Leaf & Varathon. Ede Axelson, Kelowna, BC. $2,500

Border Proposal ~ Canada and the U.S. share friendly relations and have done so for most of each other’s existence. What if we had not? So as not to take the relationship for granted, we should consider how different the relationship could be through a humorously scaled model, complete with structure and plastic guards at attention. This is my proposal for how it could have been. Concrete, Steel, Plastic. John W. Hooker, Boston, MA. $3,000.

See photos of this site specific sculptures creation between April 26th - 29th, 2007.

Salmon Returning Home ~ This 1800 year old California Redwood Cedar stump inspired the artworks environmental theme. This sculpture celebrates the Salmons lifecycle and gives new life to the cedar stump. Growing up in surrounded by a family of chainsaw artists, this brother and sister team is carrying on their family’s heritage as fine artists. Lynn Backus & Boaz Backus, Deming, WA. $15,000.

A Call Away ~ While this piece is
meant for anyone who has received a heartbreaking call, it is dedicated to those who have lost a loved one through the tragedy of war.

Bronze & black granite. Todd Wulf,
Seattle, WA. $2,850.

Sea Horse ~ I was inspired
to create this sea horse from the steel plates that I found on an old farm in Walla Walla. Once I saw the image in my mind’s eye

I strolled out in my little junkyard to find shapes to
go with the steel plates to achieve the vision of a sea
horse. Found Metal Objects.
Dan Klennert, Elbe, WA. $10,000.

Tourist tip: Dan Klennert has a sculpture park in Elbe, WA.
It is located on State Route
706 near the west entrance
to Mount Rainier National Park.

Whorl ~
Whorl is one of a series of sculptures that are created from angular elements. When joined these compounded angles achieve a spiral effect. The implied movement of the spiral and reflected light are the theme of the series. Aluminum, Welded, Forged. Michael Shewmaker, Hilo, HI. $22,000.

Olé, 2004 ~
I am describing an ephemeral action in steel to convey this moment for eternity.

The brilliant colors serve as protection for the steel from the corrosive outdoor environment as well as adding excitement to the steel to aid in the sense of the moment.

Powder Coated Steel.
Jack Howard-Potter, New York, NY. $10,000.

Visit Jack Howard-Potter's
web site.

Giraffe ~ This “North American Giraffe”
was created out of a piece of Whidbey
Island cedar. The cedars unique shape
led to create this exotic animal. Lynn
Backus Deming, WA Steve Backus,
Whigbey, WA.  $4,500.

Tourist tip: The Backus’ family has a
chainsaw art museum and gallery
located at the intersection of the
Guide Meridian and Smith Road in
Bellingham, WA.

Twisted Halo ~ The curvilinear forms in my work are inspired by both the elegance and geometry of the never-ending circle as well as the idea of the circularities of life.  In this sculpture, the circular flow of life is broken up into phases.  The overall sculptural form responds to unseen forces by twisting, just as our lives respond to actions around us.Bronze, Stainless Steel. Ulrich Pakker, Seattle, WA. $17,500.
